Hamburg Pioneer Amazons, Germany

You’ve been part of the cup from day one , what lessons or experiences do you carry forward from the years? Yes, that’s right. As we came first here, it was fun for us and a nice ending from our season. And over the years, nothing changed to this attitude. It’s still fun for us to join and meet every year new players from Europe.

Last year, you clinched the first place, how will you top that performance? Yes, the first time in all the years and we try to repeat this performance from last year. I think the Champion changed every year, so we plan to win it the second time in a row.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned over the years as a coach? Never give up and believe in your players.

How would you summarize your season in three words? unbelievable, amazing, undefeated

If you meet someone who has never tried American football, what reason would you give them to start? In this sport, we find a place for everyone, no matter how tall or small or big or whatever you are. And it’s easier then it looks, if all puzzle pieces fit.

HC Patrick Nause

WFL Dutch Lightning, The Netherlands

Being your second time in the cup, what lessons or experiences will you carry forward from last year? Last year we where in our inaugural season of our League. So we had a lot of rookies and because Dutch Lightning is an combined team we had little time to prepare. For this year our players have a bit more experiences and we had some practices together. Also we have a great coaching and support staff. So we hope that it will pay out during the weekend.

What are your expectations for this year’s cup? Also this year we have a lot of first joiners, but they all have a football heart. How the match-up will be against the other teams is difficult to say, but if it comes close to last year they will have an amazing international experiences.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned over the years as a coach? As a coach you will have a lot of ups and downs. No matter in what league or level you coach. Only in the end when you see a player/team develop in the game it is really rewarding.

How would you describe your team in three words? Passionate, divers and motivated

If you meet someone who has never tried American football, what reason would you give them to start? Just give it a try and you be amazed how addictive it can be.

HC Wesley Kuils

Copenhagen Raptors, Denmark

You have been a part of the cup (more or less) since the beginning, what lessons or experiences do you carry forward from the years? Prepare and be ready to go at the start of each game, there is no time change a lot during games.

What are your expectations for this year’s cup, now when you are playing without reinforcement from the rest of Denmark’s team? We have the same expectations as last year, and the years before. We are to develop our players and build team chemistry first. Coming with a smaller squad gives the players and coaches more opportunities to learn and grow.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned over the years as a coach? Ones coaching philosophy must always be priorized over what feels good in the moment. If not, it will come back to haunt you.

How would you describe your team in three words? Happy, Hungry, Humble

If you meet someone who has never tried American football, what reason would you give them to start? It’s fun, it’s for everybody, and it created a unique unity in the team when going through tough games and practices.

Valkyries, Denmark

I assume that a significant portion of your team has prior experience in the cup, and we’re thrilled to see two Danish teams participating this year. With that in mind, what are your expectations now that you’ve successfully established your own team independently of the Raptors? The Razorbacks and 89’ers had a mixed team at the Griffins Cup back in 2018 before the Raptors did. It’s actually at the cup, our players met the Hamburg Amazons and got offered to play with them in 2019 and have done so ever since. The team aims to win it all. And yes, we have a significant group of players with extensive experience, both from playing with the Raptors and also players who have experience from German clubs like Amazons and the Unicorns. Additionally, we have added some Swedes, as they didn’t have a full team of their own and we needed a handful to make sure we were enough.

What are your expectations for the cup? The team aims to finish in the top 3. Personally, I’m counting on us, at a minimum winning more games than we lose.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned over the years as a coach? That on the coaching side, we need to adapt to the team, but as a mixed team, we need to keep it simple as possible

How would you describe your team in three words? Experienced, determined and winners on/off the field.

If you meet someone who has never tried American football, what reason would you give them to start? The camaraderie. In general it’s just a cool sport.

Carlstad Crusaders, Sweden

Being your second time in the cup, what lessons or experiences will you carry forward from last year? That we were to few to last the whole tournament. In the final last year we were so exhausted. Almost all of us played both sides last year for every game. It was fun but it took it’s toll in the end What are your expectations for this year’s cup? The same as last year, to have fun! Play different positions then we are used to. For example our Db Hedda will play center again.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned over the years as a coach? Last year was my first so don’t have a lot of things. But for me it’s always gonna be to adjust the plays to the team strengths. You can’t force plays in if you’re players don’t believe in them.

How would you describe your team in three words? Fighters, Joy and team spirit If you meet someone who has never tried American football, what reason would you give them to start? Best sport ever and there is a place for everyone on the field.

What are your expectations for this year’s cup? play some fun games, keep building the sport and the chance to know some new teams and players.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned over the years as a coach? It takes time to learn this game, you need a lot of patience and you must keep testing your ideas and dont be afraid to go for that!

How would you describe your team in three words? Ambitious , tough and grinding.

If you meet someone who has never tried American football, what reason would you give them to start? This is a sport for everyone and our team has an teamspirit that doesnt look anything else!
